The Process
From first visit to final installation, here's how we work. Each project is unique, but the methodology remains consistent.

Consultation & Measurements
We visit your home to see the furniture in its natural context. This isn't a quick tape-measure exercise—we photograph from multiple angles, note how the piece is used, check for structural issues, and discuss fabric options under your actual lighting conditions.
Key Activities
- —Structural assessment of frame and cushions
- —Documentation of wear patterns and problem areas
- —Fabric consultation with portable swatch library
- —Detailed measurements taken three times for accuracy
- —Discussion of timeline and care requirements
Fabric Selection
Choosing fabric isn't just about color. We consider durability ratings, weave structure, cleanability, and how the material will age. A family room sofa needs different fabric than a formal dining chair. We guide you through trade-offs between aesthetics and function.
Key Activities
- —Review of durability ratings and performance fabrics
- —Discussion of natural vs. synthetic fiber trade-offs
- —Pattern matching requirements for prints and stripes
- —Shrinkage and color-fastness testing
- —Budget optimization without quality compromise
Patterning & Cutting
This is where craft experience matters most. Patterns are drafted on paper, adjusted for the specific piece, then tested in muslin before we touch your final fabric. Every curve, every corner, every closure point is planned in advance.
Key Activities
- —Custom pattern drafting from measurements
- —Muslin prototype for complex pieces
- —Grain alignment for pattern matching
- —Strategic seam placement for strength and aesthetics
- —Waste minimization through careful layout
Construction & Assembly
Industrial sewing machines, hand-finishing, and obsessive quality control. Seams are double-stitched. Piping is cut on the bias. Corners are mitred, not bundled. Zippers are set so they're invisible when closed. This stage takes the longest because rushing it shows.
Key Activities
- —Industrial-grade seam construction
- —Hand-finished piping and welt cord
- —Invisible zipper or hook-and-loop closures
- —Multiple pressing stages for crisp edges
- —Quality inspection at each assembly step
Fitting & Fine-Tuning
The first fit reveals what needs adjustment—a seam taken in by half an inch, a corner re-pinned, a closure moved two inches. This iterative process is why we insist on working locally. You can't achieve a tailored fit through mail-order.
Key Activities
- —Trial fitting in our workshop
- —Assessment of drape and tension
- —Minor adjustments to seam allowances
- —Corner and closure refinement
- —Final pressing and finishing touches
Installation & Care Instructions
We deliver and install the finished work in your home, making final adjustments in situ. You receive detailed care instructions, including cleaning methods, storage recommendations, and what to do if something needs repair years from now.
Key Activities
- —Professional installation at your location
- —On-site adjustments for perfect fit
- —Demonstration of proper installation/removal
- —Written care and cleaning instructions
- —Repair service information and warranty details
Timeline
Most projects take 4-8 weeks from initial consultation to installation, depending on fabric availability and project complexity. We work on one piece at a time, giving each project the attention it deserves. Rush services available for time-sensitive needs.
